ok, so… homey.  homey… playaaaaa… i love how you heard the chair snap (we all heard it) and tried to play it off like it didn’t happen.  you had a warning shot. so you think if you sit there longer, it’s gonna get better?  but naw… you all dignified and proper, right?  “blah blah blah the opportunity for proper engagement…” pop!  lol!!!

baby daddies and voting…

i am sitting here watching the maury povitch show and it never ceases to amaze me. where do they find these people??  seriously!

i believe legistation should be enacted that would block some of these people from voting.  i’m sorry, but if you don’t know which one of these FOUR men is your baby daddy, i’m afraid your judgement skills are impaired to the degree that i’m not going to be able to allow you to help pick the leader of the free world.

… wait a minute.  all THAT and it’s not ANY of those FOUR jokers that it could have possibly (and biblically) been?!?!?!  yeah. no voting for you.

kierra sheard wants to be invisible

i am very proud of kierra “kiki” sheard.

kierra is third-generation greatness in the legendary moss-clark family.  her late grandmother, dr. mattie moss clark, served many years as the head of the music dept. for the church of god in christ denomination and is widely considered the architect of the modern choir arrangements that are synonymous with much of today’s gospel music.

her mother is karen clark-sheard, a dynamic gospel artist in her own right and one-fourth of the iconic gospel group the clark sisters, which is also comprised of her “aunties” dorinda clark-cole, elbertina “twinkie” clark and jackie clark-chisholm.  the clark sisters, along with fellow detroit natives commissioned and the winans, are largely responsible for introducing the more contemporary style of gospel music in the early to mid-80s.

her uncle is urban gospel recording artist/writer/producer j. moss.

so basically… gospel music is in kierra’s blood.

here is a video of a 9 year old kierra and her mother karen, singing “the will of god” at the live recording of karen’s 1997 debut solo release, “finally karen”.  her gift was so evident even then…

i had the pleasure of working with a 17-year old kierra in 2003-2004 while I was working at emi music in nashville.  i still remember the day that we got in the first mix of her first single, “you don’t know”, and all gathered to hear what would soon be kierra’s official introduction to the music world as a solo artist.

i remember working on her project and developing her highly successful online marketing & promotions plan, building her street team “the juliet crew” and just beating the pavement in general to make sure that we made believers out of everyone who heard her music.  her debut album, “i owe you”, was fresh, young, soulful and hot… but most of all, it carried the unmistakable thread of the moss-clark legacy that set it apart from the efforts of her contemporaries at the time.  “i owe you” debuted at #1 on the billboard top gospel sales chart, a first for a solo artist debut.  i will never forget that entire season.

now, fast forward to 2008 and kierra has grown into not only a beautiful young woman, but a successful recording artist with 2 albums under her belt.

on october 28, she will release her third solo project, “bold! right! life!”… a fitting title as both her music and her life have grown to embody the essence of those three words.  she is a young woman who is living her live for the renown of christ and her new album is a bold statement of that.

most every artist has “career” songs.  you know, those songs that no matter how many songs or albums they record, they will always be known for those songs.  whether it be a “billie jean”, “i will always love you”, “control”, “why we sing”, “running back to you”, “stand” or “real love”… every career artist has at least one career song.

while both of her previous albums have had their share of great songs, i believe that kierra has finally delivered what will undoubtedly be a career song for her.

the song is “invisible” and it is amazing.  listen closely as she tells of her concern that we seem to be living our lives for our own glory and outshining the glory of christ, and hear her heart as she declares her desire to be invisible so that people would look at her, but see christ.

my homey jeremy sent me this and it absolutely made my day!!!!! so, let me make yours! 🙂

apparently scarlet is an aspiring singer who, like so many others these days, is trying to get noticed on youtube. she sure got my attention!

i hope she takes requests. i’d like to see a similar routine as she sings john mayer’s “gravity”. 🙂

are you being seduced by an impostor?

just saw this video and … wow.  watch it all the way to the end. (props to jay for posting)

it is an amazing depiction of our lives as believers.  finding new life in christ, learning to walk and live like him, discovering what it means for him to provide for us… only to become distracted by something that looks more appealing and courted by what appears more attractive.  before we know it, we have allowed a host of impostors to seduce our affections away and to stand between us and the great lover of our souls.

unfortunately, this is where a lot of people stay… separated, isolated, destitute, afraid… alone.  not realizing that christ is fighting for us, to reach us and that the punishment he took on himself was in our place.

this makes me take an honest look at my own life and the “lesser lovers” that I have allowed to illegally access my affections and steal my gaze from christ as the head and source of my life.

what is separating you from the unconditional love of the father?  what impostor has broken into your heart and is now the recipient of your focus and affection?

christ wants to be everything… what is he competing against in your life?

God knew what he was doing from the very beginning. He decided from the outset to shape the lives of those who love him along the same lines as the life of his Son. The Son stands first in the line of humanity he restored. We see the original and intended shape of our lives there in him. After God made that decision of what his children should be like, he followed it up by calling people by name. After he called them by name, he set them on a solid basis with himself. And then, after getting them established, he stayed with them to the end, gloriously completing what he had begun.

So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God’s chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for us—who was raised to life for us!—is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us. Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture:

They kill us in cold blood because they hate you.
We’re sitting ducks; they pick us off one by one.
None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us. (Romans 8:29-39 The Message)

i am disturbed.

first, there’s this.  louis farrakhan, leader of the nation of islam and silver-tongued deceiver of many, has gone as far as to hail barack obama’s words as the words of “the messiah”.  excuse me?  there are so many things that are disturbing about this.

the only thing more disturbing than that has to be this, a site dedicated to crowning obama as a deity. you must be out of your mind!

as i was reading all these things, this passage from the gospel of luke immediately came to me…

what sorrow awaits you who are praised by the crowds,
for their ancestors also praised false prophets. – luke 6:26

the niv translates it this way…

woe to you when all men speak well of you,
for that is how their fathers treated the false prophets

and the message translation says it like this…

there’s trouble ahead when you live only for the approval of others, saying what flatters them, doing what indulges them. popularity contests are not truth contests—look how many scoundrel preachers were approved by your ancestors! Your task is to be true, not popular.

all this is disturbing on many levels and i can’t get away from it.

i know this isn’t going to make me popular, but i really don’t care.  but i must be honest and say that i have great concern, as a follower of Christ, supporting someone in this capacity who has the glowing adulation of so many who not only do not espouse my views and values, but many of whom have views and values at the far other end of the spectrum.

when i see so many people in morally-bankrupt hollywood practically foaming at the mouth to get obama into office… i’m not going to lie to you… i must ask deeper questions and wonder why.  i must question the motive.  what is lying underneath and driving this seemingly unquenchable passion that they exhibit and I must ask myself…

is my voice synonymous with those whose vehement disdain for anything of virtue is second only to their lust for power, money and greed ?

does oprah winfrey, who can’t seem to make up her mind exactly who it is she serves, represent me?

do i lift my voice in concert with those whose “art” vigorously decries the values that are central to family to say, “i’m with you”?

do these people who day in and day out push the envelope of godlessness, immorality and indecency on a global scale actually speak for me?

i’ll tell you.

EDIT:::  for the record, this is not necessarily an anti-obama post, but rather a look at some of the foolishness going around as well as a “people get it together and learn to think and make decisions for yourselves” blog.

just because someone has a hot song or a hot movie does not mean their political opinions carry any more weight than yours do.  find out the issues, get the facts, pray for wisdom, and vote based on your conscience.

which ever way you vote, it needs to be because it is the conviction of your own heart, not because diddy is fresh to def and says “obama”.  it’s wrong when it happens on either side, but i see a lot more abuse and irresponsibility of platform and status when it comes to the entertainment world waving the obama flag high than i do on the other side.  don’t think for a second that folks aren’t banking on the ignorance of the many who wont’ take time to educate themselves on the issues, but will blindly do whatever celebrities day do.  hell, burger king even has a ad campaign featuring diddy based on this entire premise.  “diddy says bk is open late” and the masses come running.  sure, it’s tongue in cheek, but there’s a thread of unfortunate truth in it that should not be winked at.
